OAE (Otoacoustic Emissions) is a completely painless, non-invasive test. A small probe is placed in the ear canal and measures sounds produced by the inner ear (cochlea). It takes only 2–5 minutes and is commonly used for newborn screening. There is no discomfort whatsoever.

An ABR (Auditory Brainstem Response) test typically takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on complexity. For infants, a sleep-state ABR may be required, which means the child should be naturally sleepy or mildly sedated. Our audiologists will guide you on preparation before your appointment.

VEMP is recommended for anyone experiencing unexplained dizziness, balance problems, or vertigo. It is also used to diagnose Ménière's disease, superior canal dehiscence syndrome (SCDS), and vestibular neuritis. Your ENT or audiologist will recommend VEMP if clinically indicated.

Cochlear™ Implant Mapping requires specialised equipment, software, and certified audiologist training. IDÉAL invested in this capability specifically to serve the Mangalore community — so patients no longer need to travel to Bangalore or other cities for this essential service.

Mapping frequency varies. In the first year after activation, mapping is typically done every 1–3 months. As hearing stabilises, annual or biannual sessions are common. Children may require more frequent mapping than adults. Our audiologists will create a personalised schedule for you.
